Brooklyn Heights Townhouse

This Brooklyn Heights Townhouse project was the real germination point for the formation of 475 High Performance Building Supply – where the founders first worked together.   The project was a gut retrofit of an 1837 two family townhouse.  The original building had been badly damaged by years of neglect and substandard renovations.   We were then charged with bringing back the original grandeur of the the townhouse but in a way that met the needs of a modern NYC family.   Part of the assignment was to make the home efficient and comfortable by renovating to meet the Passive House standard.  Being in an important historic district of NYC, the project stirred lively debate and opposition among preservationists – leading to a summary of our experience in the article Historic Preservation & Passive House Working Together In NYC.
